An Antique, Manual Fire Bellows

Function:

Works as a sort of pump to blow air onto the fire and fan it into flames (pre-matches days).

Operation:

• Operation: You squeeze the two wooden handles (“legs”) together.
• Mechanism: This compresses the leather bag.
• Result: Air is blown forcefully onto the fire through the long metal (brass/copper) spout.

Characteristics & Dating:

• Material: Wood, leather and brass/copper parts (spout and rivets).
• Details: The copper rivets are both functional (to secure the leather) and decorative.
• Period: Probably 19th or early 20th century.

Decorative & Functional:

Not only a practical fireplace accessory (it blows air efficiently by simply opening/closing), but also a beautiful wall object – hang it with the loop on the back for an exotic, rustic touch in your interior.
